I'm new! Question about Masters

Hi!

Low model count, high story, narrative and roleplay with a setting and theme that is broadly unexplored in Wargames? Sign me up!

So far I've only bought and painted Yuuki so a bit of a way from getting to play yet (as I'll probably also need to provide a second faction to help the game get some traction locally) but I'm reading what I can.

Any advice?

Also a question about the Masters for Ro-Kan. Do people in general consider them 'optimal' or 'necessary' or do they unlock the cool and unique mechanics of the faction like lynchpins? I've been looking at them and none of them really excite me.

Turtle dude I just really dislike as a model, Akari looks squishy and not particularly exciting, Enos looks cool but his schtick seems to be hurting Kami around him for buffs and I wasn't planning on bringing the Kami and Po seems alright but seems like he's just a big bruiser type rather than doing anything unique or stand out.

You certainly don't need to include any Masters in a list.  Each one does offer something you can't get easily but the Monks are fine without supervision.  You still have great combatants, a good array of Ki feats and abilities and they fulfill all roles you need.

Currently I have Master Po in my list and he's there for one reason: Fearless.  Its good to know he can just walk in and delete Rashka (Fear 6) without having to roll, even Enos struggles with fear 6.

Enos probably only needs an earth kami, and can be run with none; if you like monks, the monk theme list gives a free kami.  He works fine with no kami but isn't an easy model to use at best.

Welcome to the game and the faction!  I hope you can get some players local to you to get into the game too.

Thank you :)

I suppose a more general question then, brought to mind when you metioned Fear. In a game like Infinity there are some general threats you need to be able to handle - TO/Camo, Fireteams, ARO Pieces, etc. - are there common features, theats, mission objectives, etc. that are worth bearing in mind when picking what to use in Bushido?

E.g.: should i never leave home without some answer to a single big, tough, bruiser? Or always think about how you'll deal with a hit and run mobile enemy piece, etc.? Have an answer to Fear and so on?

Welcome Scutarii. I am a big Temple player and have all the models for this faction. The monks are great to use and with the right timing (Bushido can be all about timing), tactics and luck you can beat anyone. They don't have the benefit of armour or many chances to re-roll dice (Martial Prowess) but they do have good MS. As Master Enos says you don't need any of the Masters. Kenko, Suchiro, Yumi, Yuuki and also some of the lesser monks like Kira and Seiji are great. Masters do give you a little extra but of course are expensive rice costs. Akari might seem squshy but I have great fun annoying my regular opponent who finds him hard to kill in melee or ranged attack and he can absorb some of the hurt whilst other models can go about their business. As an example a fully loaded and very angry Rashka attacked Akari in melee the other day in a game and Akari only lost one wound as a result. It won't always be that way of course but just goes to show he doesn't always have to be that squishy. Po can be an awesome killer. I find mixing monks with peasants, kami and even the odd card is how the Temple seem to play pretty well. It's also VERY handy to have models that can heal themselves or be healed as wound recovery I personally find important. Master Enos of course as a player is more experienced with the Temple (being a previous Grand Master) so take advice from him about building a list - he can throw some ideas your way or follow his threads for ideas.

Enjoy and good luck!

PS - Master Enos where does Rashka have Fear 6? The card shows Fear 5 from what I can see unless I am missing something?

Alphas theme can give him Fear 6, if anyone is playing it you need a good answer.

Thanks Master Enos. Ouch ... didn't realise that card existed and that's nasty. Bravery is one thing for a monk but beating Fear 6 can be very hard ... so a few more Fearless it might have to be!
